The Scandia Volunteer Fire Department (Station 53) proudly serves Elk Township from our station in Russell, Pennsylvania. For over 55 years, we have provided fire protection, rescue services, and emergency medical response to a large rural area, including parts of the Allegheny National Forest and the Allegheny Reservoir.
Our mission is simple: to protect life and property during fires, medical emergencies, and other critical situations. We work alongside neighboring departments through mutual aid to ensure dependable, around-the-clock service.
Scandia VFD is more than just emergency response—we’re part of the community. We host events like the Chainsaw Carve, Turkey Party, and Scandia Mountain Open to support our operations and bring people together.
Through continued improvements to our station, equipment, and training, we remain committed to providing reliable, professional service to the residents of Elk Township.
