Past Chief Passes Away

Jason L. Spence, 33, of Scandia Road, Russell, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at his residence.

Jason was born October 26, 1979, in Warren, PA, the son of Larry Spence and his companion Amy Parsons of Warren, and Vicki Peters Spence and her companion Lester Meyer.

Jason was a graduate of Warren High School and was employed at the Waste Treatment Plant as a laborer.

He enjoyed fishing and boating, and especially enjoyed time with his family and reading the newspaper with his Grandma.

He was a member of the former Epworth United Methodist Church, and attended Scandia Covenant Church.

For sixteen years, he was a member of the Scandia Volunteer Fire Department, where he was an active trustee for many years and Chief in 2007, Lieutenant and Assistant Chief.

He was also a member of the Hazmat Team for Warren County, and was certified in all Hazmat operations.

He is survived by:

  • His paternal grandmother, Ella Mae Spence
  • Two sisters: Jennifer Spence and Emily Spence
  • Several aunts, uncles, cousins
  • Close friends Karris Pennington and Shellie Raines

He was preceded in death by:

  • Paternal grandfather David Spence
  • Maternal grandparents Glenn “Mike” and Norma Peters
  • Great aunt Beverly Swanson

Friends were received at Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc.,
1003 Penn Ave. E., Warren, on Sunday from 6–9 PM.

Funeral service held at Scandia Covenant Church on Monday at 11 AM,
with Rev. Jon Meyer officiating.

Burial was in Scandia Cemetery.
